Formal Complaint

Subdivision 2855(4) of the New York Education Law, which is part of the NY Charter Schools Act of 1998, provides a parent, as well as any other individual or entity (such as a contractor or school district) who believes that Diamond Charter School has violated a term of its charter or applicable law relating to the management or operation of the school, with an opportunity to complain formally to the Diamond Charter School education corporation’s board of trustees and seek relief.

We provide this form for your convenience. However, you can write your own complaint with all information requested below. If space provided is too limited, attach an additional sheet(s) as needed.

Process:

  1. Complete form below or write your own complaint. Complaints must be signed and dated.
  2. Bring this form or a written complaint to the Principal or Office Manager.
  3. The school will provide you with a written response within a week of your bringing the complaint to school. Based on the allegations, time for investigating and responding to the specifics of the allegation may require more time. However, you will get a response on the next steps that Diamond Charter School will take in response to your formal complaint.
  4. The Diamond Charter School Board of Trustees will provide you a written response to your allegations.

Appeals:

After the Diamond Charter School Board of Trustees has responded, you have the right to appeal that decision, in writing, to the school’s authorizer, SUNY, Charter Schools Institute (CSI), if you do not believe that the school’s board of trustees have satisfactorily addressed the issue. You may use their form found on their website and email it along with the Diamond Charter School board’s decision to charter@suny.edu or to their address: 353 Broadway, Albany, NY 12246.
